a friend of mine is wanting to switch away from nuke .. she mostly uses content and is heavy in her photo gallery ... i like bitweaver, but the gallery seems to only do top level albums ... is it possible to suggest the gallery component be modified to support nested albums?

That's in fisheye for quite a while, I think. Create a gallery and click on one of those tabs on top, there's a feature like "belongs to..." and a list of the available albums to make the current album a child of.
